DriveAway ("DriveAway", "we", "us", "our") is a mobile app, designed and built by a UK-based
team, that connects people in Algeria with car rentals, ride services, beach & watersports gear,
and shared group rides. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the
DriveAway app, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using
DriveAway you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Information we collect
Account information β your name, email address, phone number and password when
you create an account (you can also sign in with a social login such as Google).
Profile information β an optional profile photo and any details you choose to add.
Identity verification β to keep the community safe, identity checks are handled by
our third-party verification partner, Didit. You submit your ID (such as a driver's
licence, national ID or passport) and a selfie on Didit's own secure service.
DriveAway never receives or stores your identity documents β we only receive the
result (verified or not) and, from your ID, your gender (used solely to enable women-only rides).
Driver vehicle documents β if you sign up to drive, you upload your car's
registration card (carte grise) and photos of the car so an administrator can confirm the vehicle.
The registration card is kept privately only until it is reviewed, then deleted.
Location information β with your permission, your device's location, used to show
nearby cars, rides and beach stations, to set pickup points, and to track a trip live while a ride
is in progress. You can decline; the app still works using a chosen city, though some features may
be limited.
Bookings & activity β the rentals, rides, beach reservations and group rides
you make, including dates, pickup/drop-off points, and prices.
Content you create β listings, photos you upload (including vehicle-condition
photos), posts in the in-app feed, reviews, optional short voice notes for ride pickup, and messages
or requests you send to other users.
Payment information β bookings are paid in cash on pickup, in
person between you and the provider. DriveAway does not collect or process your card
or bank-account details. The app includes an in-app wallet (balance and transaction history), but
online top-ups are not currently enabled, so no card or payment-provider data is
collected at this time.
Device & technical information β device model, operating system, app version,
app identifiers, basic usage data, and crash/diagnostic logs that help us keep the app working and
secure.
2. How we use your information
To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
To provide the core services β listing and booking cars, matching riders with drivers, reserving
beach gear, and arranging group rides.
To verify users through our verification partner and help keep the community safe and reduce fraud.
To keep a record of your in-app wallet balance and any transactions.
To show you relevant nearby options and to display live trip tracking.
To send you important notifications about your bookings and account.
To respond to your support requests.
To fix problems, improve the app, and meet our legal obligations.
3. How we share your information
With other users, as needed to complete a booking β for example, a driver sees the
pickup location for a ride, and a provider sees the details of a booking you made with them. We share
only what is needed for the service.
With our identity-verification partner, Didit β you complete identity verification on
Didit's secure service; Didit processes your ID document and selfie and returns only the result to
DriveAway. Your documents stay with Didit, not with us.
With DriveAway administrators β for drivers, an administrator reviews your car's
registration card to confirm the vehicle; it is deleted after review. Administrators do not receive
your identity documents.
With service providers who run parts of the app for us:
A trusted cloud platform from Google β secure sign-in, database, file storage,
notifications, and crash/diagnostic reporting.
A maps service β to show maps and locations.
Chargily (payment processor) β would process card payments only if in-app wallet
top-ups are enabled in future; it is not currently active.
For legal and safety reasons β if required by law, or to protect the rights,
property, or safety of DriveAway, our users, or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Location
DriveAway uses your location to show nearby cars, rides and beach stations, to set pickup points, and
to track a trip while it is happening. You can turn location off in your device settings at any time, but
some features (such as finding nearby providers or live tracking) may not work without it.
5. Storage, security & retention
Your information is stored with a trusted cloud provider (Google Cloud) and encrypted in transit. Access is
restricted by server-side security rules: your identity documents are handled by our verification partner
(Didit) and are not stored by DriveAway; a driver's car registration card is private to authorised
administrators and is deleted after review; and bookings and messages are visible only to their participants. No method of
transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and review our practices
regularly. We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the
service, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal requirements. When you delete your account, we
delete or anonymise your personal information, except where we are required to keep certain records (for
example, transaction records).
6. Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile information in the app.
You can control location and notification permissions in your device settings.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you can
delete your account, by contacting us at the email below.
7. Children
DriveAway is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed to children, and we do not
knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with
personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International data transfers
Our service providers (such as our cloud provider Google and our identity-verification partner Didit) may
store and process information on servers located outside Algeria. Where this happens, we take steps so your
information remains protected in line with this policy.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the
"Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
